Sarah/Scarlet Jane has been performing since she could stand. She hails from a musical family in which she privately sought to reconcile introversion with unrelenting energy and creativity bordered by a Methodist ministry.

Her early experiences desiring authentic expression while maintaining appearances fueled her drive to write and create. She found outlets in singing camps, school choirs, musicals and karaoke nights, where she pushed through the performance anxiety that awaits most whose inner self is being revealed.

Grunge, garage and alternative rock spoke to her spirit and shaped her output, but along the way she also found herself writing comedic songs and even a few raps and country-styled songs. She has also been working on a musical through the years.

She has been in several bands and collaborated with a spectrum of musical artists, all of whom inspired and guided her steps to the formation of The Midnight Sun.

Sarah/Scarlet Jane is also a painter, fiction and script writer, video director and tattoo artist.

The jumpin’ jack flash of musical trades, Jeff developed his interest in music while banging on bongos as a baby. He started learning the organ at six and also added piano by the time he reached junior high.

The school didn’t have keyboards, so he shifted to percussive pursuits inspired by the drums he’d once made from kitchen items as well as the starter kit he received from Mom and Dad.

His continuing path included marching band, orchestra, jazz band, pep band, competitions and gigging bands of different sonic stripes. He also joined the Audio Engineering Society to learn more about acoustics and music production.

Jeff is a rock man, a blues man, a funk man and an everything-else man. He plays drums, cajon, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards and a mean $80 shaker. He is also the grinning, stray-haired scientist behind both a soundboard and recording and mixing software.

With his overflowing toolbox of musical toys, talents and ideas, he is both the thread and the groove that ties together The Midnight Sun’s musical vision.

Jon started playing his dad’s guitar (upside down) and banging pots and pans when he was still wearing pajamas with footies.

He continued making sounds through much of his childhood and early adolescence until sports, the high school and college life, and career-searching packed his gear for an 18-year vacation.

One night, after an evening of live music at the Metro in Chicago, Jon went back to his city apartment and, in a defining moment of clarity, recognized the desire to write and play music had never left him. It was time to return to what he’d started almost two decades earlier, and this time it would be for good.

His future wife bought him a guitar from Guitar Center on Halsted Street in Chicago for his birthday soon after.

Since then, he has maintained the mission to make musical fusion with like-minded others. That journey fatefully led him to Sarah, Jeff and the slipstream that follows dreams and ideas on their way to the midnight sun.
